Moving Day – We’re headed to http://blog.deremerstudios.com

The Deremer Studio Blog is moving to http://blog.deremerstudios.com

Big News!  After almost three years, 370 posts, 5100 photos, and 280,000 views, we’ve decided to move the hosting of our WordPress blog onto our own site.  The new blog location will be http://blog.deremerstudios.com.  We’ve transferred over all the archives, including all the images, comments and likes to the new location, so you’ll still be able to search and find what you’re looking for from the past three years.  For the time being, we’ll be keeping this site up as well, though all new posts will be at the new blog location.    For most of you, your subscription should transfer over to the new site without an issue, but if you’ve signed up for email updates, you’ll need to sign up a second time.

As always, if you enjoy our photos, please share the new blog address with your friends and help us spread the word!

The Summer Adventure: Fine Art Panoramas from our Travels

2014 07 Fine Art Panorama - Summer Trip 02 Great Bay NH Foggy Sunset Newicks

The blog has been a bit scatter-brained over the past month, with no particular order – so why change, right?  Today we are featuring several of our ultra-high resolution 100 megapixel fine art panoramas from our recent photo expeditions.  Above is one of our favorite panoramas from a foggy evening shoot in Dover Point, NH, just outside of the great local seafood restaurant, Newick’s.  That evening proved an absolutely stunning display of glory and we were able to capture several panoramas as day gave way to night.  While in Virginia, we visited one of our favorite locations, White Top Mountain (below) and despite never fully seeing the sun as it set, the low cloud layer and never-ending layers of ridges made for some pretty panoramas all the same.

Appalachia in Summer – Old Glade Antique Tractor Show

2014 07 Fine Art - Virginia Summer 20 - Antique Tractor Show

We recently had the very special treat of attending the Old Glade Antique Tractor Show, perched on a picturesque hillside in Abingdon, VA. At first glance, the similarities between an antique tractor show in the Virginia hills and our usual coverage of an event like the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance seem few and far between. Sure, the items on display are old and the vehicles on display have 4 wheels, a motor and some curious designs – but beyond that how could these two events be more dissimilar?

In fact, these sorts of events have more in common that you would think. While most of the collectors probably don’t have bank accounts to rival the GDP of a Central American country, these folks are every inch as passionate about their vintage tractors as are the owners of a prestigious piece of racing history. They know the provenance of their machines, the nuances that make their tractor unique, and they have a high opinion of what their equipment is worth. It’s often said you can tell you’re at a concours by the garish and stylistically confusing coloring of participants pants, and so too you find a distinct wardrobe at an antique tractor show – consisting mainly of crisp blue bib-overalls and straw hats.

So, what is different you ask – there is an order of magnitude separation in the value of these vehicles for starters. A pristinely restored 1950s Ford Jubilee Tractor, for example, will set you back about $5,000 – but even a bargain-basement concours-level entry will set you back 30 times that amount. In other words, if you were so inclined to sell just one of your concours cars, you could fill up an entire barn with top-notch antique tractors – in-so-doing have one of the best private tractor collections in the country – and still have enough loose change to buy yourself a few dozen acres to play farmer with. Tempting, isn’t it…  Or, if you’re like me and don’t have $200,000 burning a hole in your pocket – getting into the world of tractor collecting could prove both profitable and enjoyable.  For a boy with rural roots and a love of the country, I thoroughly enjoyed the day spent with these genuine and kind antique tractor enthusiasts.

Down East Adventures: A Day in the Life of Coastal Fog

2014 07 Fine Art - New England Summer 26 - Travel Photography Fo

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be highlighting a series of HD 1080P wallpaper from our recent summer travels through Appalachian Virginia, New Hampshire and Vermont.  To kick things off, we’ve got a rather splendid day spent photographing fog along the Piscatiqua River in Coastal NH.  As day gave way to the soft tones of dusk, the sun broke through the clouds, transitioning into a sunset that literally cast pinks and oranges and purples over the entire sky.  And yet still, even with the fiery colors above, the fog lingered over the swiftly moving river, glowing bright pink as the last memories of light faded into the night.  It was truly a gorgeous display of God’s artistry in creation and an absolute joy to be able to photograph.

2014 Coke Zero 400: The Rain in Daytona Falls Mainly on the Track…

2014 07 Automotive - 2014 Coke Zero 400 01 - Rain Delay Daytona

It’s been a rough year for racing at Daytona – from the horrific crash that nearly killed two drivers at the Rolex 24, to the severe weather that overtook the track and it’s 200,000 fans at the Daytona 500, to this weekend’s never ending deluge that threatened to completely cancel the Coke Zero 400.  Thankfully, the race was able to get underway a day late, but even still, those pesky showers managed to end the race early.  But, despite the bad weather, the 2014 NASCAR racing at Daytona has been full of action – three and four wide racing – and as such, some rather spectacular pile-ups.   Yesterday was no exception – with two big wrecks, the second of which involved over 75% of the field.

2014 07 Automotive - 2014 Coke Zero 400 12 - Earnhardt Rain Delay Big One Crash Daytona

When the dust had settled and the rain moved in, the winner of this year’s running of the Coke Zero 400 was Aric Almirola, racing the #43 emblazoned Ford of Richard Petty Motorsports.  What makes this victory all the sweeter you ask?  30 years ago, on this very same weekend and on the very same track, Richard Petty won his 200th NASCAR race.

Calendar Time – July HD Desktop Wallpaper!

2014 07 July Wallpaper - Fourth of July Fireworks Portsmouth NH

And just like that we’re half way through 2014.  Can you believe it?  In Florida things are heating up and I’ve found myself longing for that winter weather again.  But you can’t tell that from our July HD wallpaper.  As with previous months, these images are formatted for HD 16×9 screens and make great wallpaper for your computer, tablet or TV.  This month we’ve got some bright and sunny shots from all over the eastern seaboard, from Maine to Florida – and as it is July, I’ve included one of my favorite 4th of July shots from Portsmouth, NH. And lastly, our calendar post wouldn’t be complete without an image from the Amelia Island Concours D’Elegance – this month is a quite unique and surprisingly ‘un-Fordlike’ Ford – it’s Edsel Ford’s Restored 1934 Model 40 Special from the 2012 Concours.  If you’re looking for more automotive-themed desktop wallpaper, be sure to check out our Automotive section!
