Kevin & Stephanie’s Club Continental Wedding

2013 10 Wedding Stephanie & Kevin 13 Club Continental

We had the pleasure of photographing this wonderful couple’s Club Continental wedding recently.  Kevin and Stephanie planned an intimate and joyous morning wedding along the scenic waters of the St Johns River.  The Autumn themed colors went perfectly with the crisp weather, and accented their wonderful ceremony perfectly.  Be sure to check out some of the great ideas this couple had below!

Congrats Kevin & Stephanie!  As always, check out all our favorite photos below!

Falling for the Mountains – Foliage Fools Part 3

One last post from our time in the North Carolina mountains – this time featuring the awesome house we rented and our last day of fun, though rather overcast, photography.  Above is one of the last shots from the deck of our wonderful little home away from home.  The sun filtering through the variegated cloud layers cast some amazing highlights on the now-fading mountain foliage.  Blue skies are awesome, but some of my favorite autumn photography is during those rather dreary skies – especially those broken cloud layers that add so much interest to the scene.

Above is the dining area overlooking that awesome view outside.  I really can’t say enough about both the actual little house and its glorious views.  Below is a virtual tour of this unique octagonal home.

Disclaimer: the house pictured above is not an “after” photo of the house we stayed in.  To the best of my knowledge, its still intact.  This house, however, is not.  We found this little house when exploring a dirt road leading to an old Lutheran camp.  Best I can tell, the most recent materials are more than 50 years old, so its probably been slowing decaying for quite some time.  As always, feel free to share, download and enjoy!

Falling for the Mountains – Foliage Fools Part 2

Well, it seems you have stumbled upon part two of our adventure in the mountains of North Carolina.  Above is the view from the top of Upper Creek Falls, just outside of Linville, NC.  It’s about a mile hike to this site along some moderately steep trails, but we did it with our whole family, kids and all, without too much of a problem and limited whining (mostly from me).  The reward at the bottom was pretty amazing, with the water flowing along this gigantic, lightly rolling granite outcropping which tapers into a 60 foot waterfall – without a rail in site (slightly stressful with a pile of kids anxious to look over the edge).  But with the fall colors in full array, it was certainly a worthy hike!

It seems there was quite the large contingent of chipmunks around the house where we stayed.  This little guy caught my eye – if you notice, his color is considerably lighter than a typical chipmunk.  Scientifically speaking, it probably has something to do with gamma radiation or a radioactive spider.    Enjoy – and of course, feel free to download as a desktop wallpaper!

Falling for the Mountains – Foliage Fools Part 1

This past week, we had the pleasure of spending a few days in the mountains of North Carolina.  From a few of the locals we spoke to, it looks like we had just missed peak colors, but to be honest, compared to anything we get in FL, this was spectacular.  Above is a photo from the deck of our 4,400 foot-high lodging as the sun was rising over the valley below – amazing location, right?   If I owned this little piece of glory, chances are I would spend every fall there – and most summers, and springs…

On the first day of our trip (slightly delayed as a result of a particularly nasty family-wide stomach bug), we began the climb to the mountains up NC 181.  At our first stop, Brown Mountain (As an aside, a few years ago I discovered this great old Bluegrass song called the Brown Mountain Lights – its about mysterious lights that have appeared atop this mountains for over a century – here’s the Wikipedia link: Brown Mountain Lights), there was quite a bit of green as you can see from the first image in the slideshow, but thankfully as we went upward and westward, the colors exploded.

The image above is from the first morning in the mountains, about 45 minutes after sunrise – the little winding road leading down from house was full of these beautiful little hollows – lit perfectly by the morning sun.

And so, I’ll leave you with this for now.  Many more photos (and perhaps a story or two) to come!  Enjoy – and of course, feel free to download as a desktop wallpaper!

Freebie! Nova Scotia: To and Fro (Part 3)

Well no journey would begin without travel, nor end without travel from our destination.  On this trip, we traveled via Delta Airlines and had the privilege [is privilege the right word?]  of visiting 5 separate airports, including extended visits to DC and Atlanta.  But the delays weren’t all bad – they allowed us to get some great aviation photos and make some new friends.  Enjoy!

Freebie! Nova Scotia Autumn Adventure Wallpaper (Part 2)

Last week, we had the pleasure of visiting the wonderful autumn wonderland that is Nova Scotia.  Here is part two of our photo collection.  The above photo is of Hall’s Harbour, a tiny little inlet located on the Bay of Fundy.  The tides in this area are so large that the water level rises and falls 50 feet with every tide.  It’s really a pretty cool spot.

The fall colors truly couldn’t have been better.  When we arrived, the colors had just begun to pop, and by our third day there, it was absolutely stunning.  The weather was pleasant though a bit brisk (in the 60s), but in the sun it was quite comfortable.  And with all the photos on our blog, you are welcome to use them as desktop wallpaper – they are in widescreen format.  Enjoy the photos!
